saying goodbye…and new beginnings

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the sad passing (too early) of our dear Trixie. She was only 5 years old, so it was quite a surprise to lose the poor girl. Her feisty attitude was known by most who visited the store - not to mention the people who passed by the windows with their own dogs & got menaced by her!  Thankfully, she was only 5 pounds, so no one was in danger of losing a leg!  She was always there by Jill’s side. We cling to so many memories of the ‘monkey’….and she will live on in our store logo beside her best friend, Sable. Below is a photo of Sable and Trixie after a long, tough day….resting together.

…BUT – - along with this sad news, comes a new beginning…..and we would like to invite you to meet Lou! She is the sweetest little girl that Jill rescued. She was found living in an Animal Horder’s home  - they took 40 other dogs from the same home! – we are so happy to be helping her have a better life.  Miss Lou likes to give lots of licks, and is very friendly. She is about 10 months old, so is still learning, but is filling our lives with lots of love.  AND (!)…She and Sable met the other day – - –  looks like they’ll get along just fine.

…even if Sable still tries to fit in her ‘Trixie T-shirt’ every now and then……….xx

happy heart day & ‘Nic Nack Notes’ debut

valentines

Today’s a great day – it stopped snowing!!! AND – — it’s Valentine’s Day! — – an excuse to make the loved ones around you feel extra special. Some years are better than others…I remember one of my Valentines in jr. high gave me a box of half-eaten chocolates – he couldn’t resist…. I’d have to say most years have been better than that – and it’s nice to now spend these days with my husband. BUT, I like to extend the love a bit further and make sure my mother, grandmother and other family & friends hear from me to get a reminder that I love them all. Take a moment today and let those close to you know how much you mean to them.

hearts

If you need some help, we have some great cards, and even some little note sets with a cute asymmetrical heart on the envelope flap ((just enough)) — AND we also just started selling some really adorable clipboards from Nic Nack Notes (pictured below) – - a company run by 2 of the youngest entrepreneurs we’ve ever had the privilege to sell for. Sisters Natalie (Age 7) and Abigail (Age 5) design and create these clipboards themselves – and live locally in Greenwich!  All clipboards come with a pad of paper and a pencil – - –  and they can also be personalized if you’d like. They come in a  wide variety of colors. We even have a few with Valentine’s designs on them! Nothing makes us happier than trying to help these girls succeed – - and they are quite professional! Come check out their goods!

OOH! pretty pictures! — & we’re in them, too!

Jill and I got an email last Tuesday from Style Me Pretty, saying we were part of the wedding being showcased in their ‘Little Black Book Blog’! It was a complete surprise {the best kind!} – - and oh! what a beautiful wedding it turned out to be! We absolutely LOVE when we get to see photos of the weddings and other events that we have a hand in — it makes it feel so much more complete – - just to see it all come full circle.

This SMP post was from the wedding of Gail and John Henry – such a cute couple – and a sweet personality to match! The custom engraved invitations, embellished with a pagoda, set the tone for the wedding. The beautiful blonde bride had a vision of the type of watercolor border she wanted on each menu on her table — and she actually hand painted them all!!….she went on to do the same for the table numbers and escort cards – a personal touch that really completed her look.

What’s also nice was that this isn’t even one of  the events that I designed the invitation for! It was all Jill! The invite was done with the help of Crane, but Jill actually laid out the menus & programs herself and printed them in-house. Most of you may know that Jill is a long-time veteran of helping people find the best of what they can get out of any custom invitation book – — but, she has developed a new set of skills over the past few years… I’ve taught her how to use Illustrator and how to type-set from a blank slate!  — Not to say that I wouldn’t have helped her myself, but I was in a sad state of affairs with a personal health issue at the time – I owe so much to her for being able to keep up our level of service during the past year. <<< ok, im starting to tear up… love her.

SO…it really makes me so happy that Jill’s work was part of this!!! One of the many times that I am so glad we are business partners, and can see how much respect we have for eachother….who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks??…wait – who are you calling an old dog?……we’re all drinking from the fountain of youth over here, I dont know about you……..come on in and have some   :-)

A SLICE OF SUMMER WITH THE ‘FIRED UP PIZZA TRUCK’

by j.papers and co.

It may seem like we were a little quiet over the summer… but, it has been far from dull!

We’ve had our busiest summer to date! LOTS of custom-designed bat/bar mitzvah invitations – as well as many, many wedding invitations mailed just in the last couple of months!

In addition to all of that,  our co-owner and designer extraordinaire, Colleen, managed to squeeze in a few summer side projects. She got out of the studio to help the guys over at ‘Fired Up Pizza Truck’ of Milford design their logo and add a little extra flair to their trailer.

John2john1

Colleen enlisted the help (and brawn) of her husband and carpenter, John, of J.Kranz Carpentry. He had the job of routing out the logo from boards of reclaimed wood, blow torching inside the letters to create the perfect effect and then staining the entire thing. It was quite the weekend project at the Kranz household, but worth it for the new trailer’s debut at the Milford Oyster Festival!

It’s been fantastic working with these great guys – and they make awesome pizza to boot! Follow them on Facebook and check them out online. We highly recommend the dessert pies! Yum!
